Apron of Love

This is a clever recipe card idea created by Carmen Miyoshi, a Stampin’ Up! demonstrator from Iowa using the Apron of Love bundle.  I was lucky to receive her swap while attending 2018 On-Stage Milwaukee in April.

The Apron of Love bundle lets you create lovely apron cards and projects for almost every occasion.  The best part is that aprons symbolize so many things — both masculine and feminine — when it comes to love, strength, dedication, hard work, caring for others and homemade goodies!!!

Let’s take a closer look at Carmen’s card.  She used Apron Builder Framelit Dies and the Layering Circle Framelit Dies.  The apron was die cut from Birthday Memories Designer Series Paper.  I love her used of fun, feminine colors of cardstock in Flirty Flamingo, Soft Sky, Lemon-Lime Twist and Whisper White.

The card is a fun-fold design with a shallow pocket to hold the recipe card.  And, the recipe card is for Carmen’s Cinn-Fully Delicious Cookies.  Yum!

This is a clever project which is perfect for holiday cookie exchanges!  You could use retiring holiday themed paper and coordinated cardstock to create the card to share with your homemade goodies.

But as I said, this is a great bundle for creating feminine and masculine cards/projects.  Just change the colors, add some metallic design elements and it would make a great Father’s Day Card.  And add some ribbon and create a unique gift tags for giving homemade items from the kitchen.

Please note that while the individual items of this bundle carry-over to the new catalog, the special bundle price does not!  So if you want to save 10%, order this bundle by May 31st .

Happy St. Patrick’s Day

st patricks day card finished

St. Patrick’s Day is celebrated by millions of people across the globe.  People wear the color green, drink green beverages and decorate houses and businesses in shamrocks.  In fact, the wearing of the green is a tradition that dates back to a story written about St. Patrick in 1726.  The truth is that St. Patrick (c. AD 385–461) was actually known to use the shamrock to illustrate the Holy Trinity and to have worn green clothing.

Today is celebrated as a public holiday in the Republic of Ireland, Northern Ireland, the Canadian province of Newfoundland and Labrador, and the British Overseas Territory of Montserrat. It is also widely celebrated by the Irish diaspora around the world, especially in Great Britain, Canada, the United States, Argentina, Australia and New Zealand.

Currently Stampin’ Up! only carries the “Happy St. Patrick’s Day” sentiment in Teeny Tiny Sentiments stamp set — it’s one of 24 sentiments in this must-have stamp set.   However with a little creativity, it is possible to turn the santa image from Cookie-Cutter Christmas stamp set into a delightful leprechaun!  I used a rectangle blog image from Lovely Inside & Out stamp set to create the traditional shape of a leprechaun hat.  A little blending with the Emerald Envy stampin’ write marker, Lemon-Lime Twist stampin’ write marker and the Blender Pen made the rectangle blob a more solid color.  I used the fine tip of my Basic Black stampin’ write marker to outline the image and create some contouring.

You’ll find yourself with a whole new set of friends with lots of personality using this Cookie Cutter Christmas stamp set — reindeer, Eskimo, teddy bear, Santa, gingerbread man and now a mischievous little leprechaun.  What other delightful friends can you find with this stamp set?

Wishing you lots of shamrocks and fun shenanigans on this St. Patrick’s Day!

Heart Happiness

All we need is love….and Heart Happiness stamp set is perfect for sharing your love and your creativity with those special people closest to you!   This stamp set is full of hearts — because you can never have enough!  And, this stamp set coordinates nicely with Sweet & Sassy Framelits dies — so that you have even more creative options.

And while we often think of hearts with Valentine’s Day, they are truly appropriate for any occasion — thinking of you cards, thank you cards, wedding and anniversary, birthday cards and even sympathy cards.

During a recent snow day, I thoroughly enjoyed playing with these hearts.  Here are are some simple gift tags made in Peekaboo Peach and Calypso Coral using scraps of Whisper White cardstock, Ombre Ribbon in Calypso Coral and Baker’s Twine in Peekaboo Peach

heart happiness sample 1

Here I stamped in VersaMark ink and heat embossed White Embossing Powder on the floral outline heart image and the “love you” stamp from Lots of Love stamp set on Pear Pizzazz cardstock.  I stamped the large floral heart in Pear Pizzazz.  And using the fine tip of my Berry Burst Stampin’ Write Marker, I drew the outline around the flowers, which I subsequently colored with Pink Pirouette Stampin’ Write Marker.  I used my aqua painter to lift some Pear Pizzazz ink off the lid of the stamp pad to color the leaves in a softer shade of Pear Pizzazz.  All the hearts were die cut with Sweet & Sassy Framelits, and the background piece was dry embossed using my Big Shot Machine and the Simple Stripes Textured Impressions Embossing Folder

The card was embellished with Pearl Basic Jewels and Berry Burst Finely Woven Ribbon.  Here’s a close up of the large floral heart.

Hope you enjoyed seeing these projects.  Until next time, sending you crafting hugs and inspiration wishes!

Christmas Cards – Past & Present

I love the holiday season and the joy of finding a Christmas card in my mailbox.  Christmas cards have been a traditional Christmas celebration since 1840’s.  They convey your warmest wishes and let family and friends know that they are valued and loved.

I particularly enjoy making handmade Christmas cards – selecting the design and sentiment – often months in advance.  As a creative endeavor, I believe that each hand made card is a personal gift to the recipient.  They have a sentimental value which is why people collect them and display them year after year.

I particularly enjoy receiving handmade cards.  And when these individual masterpieces include personal touches with family photos and newsletters, they offer yet another personal connection with the senders.

Here is a retrospective of the many beautiful Christmas cards that I have sent or received.  I hope you enjoy them as much as I do.

Sending crafting hugs and the warmest wishes for a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
