Epic Celebrations

Masculine stamp sets are hard to come by, finding a stamp set that is timeless and yet youthful, but not too young is even harder!!  The Epic Celebration stamp set is perfect for creating cards for the cool dudes ‘n’ gals you know.  This is another exclusive Sale-A-Bration item that can be yours with a $50 purchase.

Using my Stamp-a-ma-jig, I was able to perfectly stamp the electric guitars and sentiments to create this classic card.  I used my light Cherry Cobbler Stampin’ Blends marker to color the electric guitars, added some splatters from Timeless Textures stamp set and some Black and White Baker’s Twine.  The image piece was then matted with cardstock and a piece of retired designer series paper.

epic celebrations 1

This next card has several layers.  First, I stamped and fussy cut the electric guitar on a scrap of Whisper White cardstock, then colored it using both the light and dark Stampin’ Blends from Cherry Cobbler combo and Smoky Slate combo packs.  For the sentiment piece was die cut using Layering Circle Framelits — with second largest circle and scalloped circles.  I used the Huffing technique and my Stampin’ Write markers to color “EPIC” in Cherry Cobbler and the rest in Basic Black to create the sentiment piece which I embellished with three black rhinestones (now retired, but you can create your own black rhinestones by coloring Rhinestone Basic Jewels with a Black Sharpie).  I created my own dotted designer paper using a scrap of Whisper White cardstock, Cherry Cobbler ink and the dots stamp with first and second generation stamping.  I embellished the dotted designer paper with a thin strip of Silver Foil.  The large layer of Cherry Cobbler was dry embossed using my new Simple Stripes embossing folder, and I carefully swiped Basic Gray Archival ink pad over the raised embossed image to add color and dimension.  The piece was then mounted on a piece of Basic Gray cardstock cut 5″x8-1/2″ and folded in half.

This timeless yet youthful Epic Celebration stamp set is a must have for your craft room.  And, it can be yours free with a qualifying purchase during Sale-a-Bration promotion with runs through March 31st.

Until next time, sending you crafting hugs and inspiration wishes!

Techniques using Brusho and Pattern Party Masks

Brusho watercolor crystals are fun to play with — simply sprinkle them directly on water-washed paper and watch the colors burst!  Check out this Stampin’ Up! video for several tips and tricks for using Brusho.  Trust me, you’re going to want to add Brusho to your watercoloring supplies.

When combined with Pattern Party Decorative Masks — you will embark on a new way to step up your watercolor technique — plus this technique will give you two background pieces for card making.

First, use washi tape to secure a piece of Thick Whisper White cardstock to your work surface.  Add a light spritzing of water using your Stampin’ Spritzers to the entire piece and then cover with your decorative mask.  Next very little sprinkle with two different colors of Brusho — remember a little goes a long way!  Here I sprinkled yellow Brusho in the top left, and Prussian Blue in the bottom right.  Add another light spritz with water and allow the color to burst and mix.  If necessary, use your Aqua Painter to add drop of water and spread the Brusho watercolor inside the negative openings of the mask.

Prepare a second piece of Thick Whisper White cardstock and add a light water wash with your aqua painter.  Next, carefully lift up the mask from the first piece.  Since the mask is still wet with Brusho — place the mask upside down on a second piece of Thick Whisper White cardstock to transfer the watercolor ink.  Spritz the second piece again and press down on the mask to help transfer the ink.  Allow both pieces to air dry.   You can speed up the process by using your heat gun, remembering to applying heat both sides of the piece to minimize the paper curling.

Now decorate your background pieces to create a card.  Here, I combined my background pieces with diecuts from Butterflies Thinlits (an old favorite product found on page 215 in Annual Catalog) and from Celebrate You Thinlits dies from Sale-a-Bration brochure.

Photo-Realistic Stamping with Heartfelt -Blooms

heartfelt blooms catalogVintage photos are often used to make beautiful photo-realistic stamps.  The Heartfelt Blooms from the Sale-a-Bration brochure is one of these amazing stamp sets.  This one-step stamp will create stunning projects whether stamped in one color, or stamped in a neutral color and colored in your favorite shades.  This is a Sale-A-Bration exclusive item, which you can get FREE with a purchase of $50 or more.

In the future, Stampin’ Up! will be offering more photo-realistic stamps from a new line of Distinktive stamps which lay down ink at different opacities, giving the finished image more depth.  The trick to getting a great impression from a photo-realistic stamps, like Heartfelt Blooms, is doing a little prep work and making the right choices about paper and ink!

Prep Work

  • Clean your stamp first using your Stampin’ Mist and Stampin’ Scrub in order to remove any residue from the manufacturing process.
  • Next, ink and stamp the image several times on some scrap paper.
  • Gentle rub any areas on your stamp that do not leave a good stamped image, then clean your stamp again using your Stampin’ Mist and Stampin’ Scrub.
  • Once thoroughly cleaned, the stamp should ink up nicely without any puddles or pools of ink on the raised surfaces of the stamp.

Check the wetness of your ink pad

Your Stampin’ Up Classic Ink Pads and Archival ink pads should work wonderfully.  However, you may need a slightly drier ink pad to achieve a crisp detailed image — especially if you recently re-inked your pad.  If your ink pad is too juicy, the ink will collect between the raised lines of your stamp and blur when stamped.  Simple remedy is to pounce your juicy ink pad directly on some computer paper in order to remove the extra wet ink.

Tip:  Avoid using VersaMark or pigment inks (like our Craft White ink) — these inks are thicker and will puddle between the stamped image lines creating a blurrier image.

heartfelt blooms 2

Paper Finishes

The smooth finish of our Whisper White and Very Vanilla cardstocks will provide a sharp, detailed image of your stamp.  Glossy White and Shimmery White papers will also work wonderfully because the paper coating allows the ink to sit more on the surface of the paper rather than to be absorbed into the paper.   You will need to experiment with other papers to see if you will get the desired results.

Inking and Stamping

To get an even coating of ink, I like to pat the ink pad onto the rubber stamp.  Simply place your stamp on its back on your work table, and pat the ink pad onto the rubber.  Hold your stamp up to the light and make sure all the raised surfaces look shiny with ink.

To stamp your image straight down so that the rubber surface touches the paper at the same time.  The stamp positioning tool like a Stamp-a-ma-jig or the new Stamparatus may help you get consistent results.  If you do not have one of these tools, simply press your stamp straight down onto your paper, without rocking and lift your stamp straight up, holding your paper down with one hand. You should have a nice, clear image.heartfelt blooms sample 1

Moonlight Tropics using Waterfront

Masking and sponging — all that’s necessary to make this moonlight tropical scene with the Waterfront photopolmer stamp set.

waterfront palm tree islands with aqua painter

To create this card, you will need a post-it note pad, a 1-1/2 inch circle punch, a sponge cut into wedges, and aqua painter and Soft Sky, Dapper Denim and Tuxedo Black Memento ink pads.  I created a mask for the moon by punching a 1-1/2 inch circle out of a sticky end of a post-it note.

To create my scene, I placed the circle post-it note on a piece of Soft Sky cardstock.  Then, I lightly sponged Soft Sky ink around the moon and sponged Dapper Denim ink to create darker sky towards the top of the piece.

I used the straight edge of the post-it note, Memento ink and the long stamp from Waterfront stamp.  A little sponging above the island created the illusion of distance.  And, then stamped the palm trees in Memento ink.

The water was created by inking up the water image with Soft Sky and brushing it with my aqua painter before stamping the image.  I also picked up some ink from the lid to create the horizon and to add some additional color with my aqua painter.

The sentiment was added Memento ink from the Picture Perfect Stamp Set.  The edges of the moonlight stamped piece were sponged with Memento ink, matted on Whisper White cardstock and mounted on a retired piece of designer series paper.

Until next time, sending you crafting hugs and inspiration wishes!

beautiful day thank you 1

To make this card, I stamped Postscript Background stamp in Sahara Sand ink and sponged the edges in Calypso Coral ink.  I stamped flower image from Beautiful Day stamp set in Tuxedo Black Memento ink, and colored it using my Stampin’ Blends.  For the flower, I worked a few petals at a time.  I started with the dark Calypso Coral and blended out with light Calypso Coral, dark Pink Pirouette and light Pink Pirouette.  The leaf was colored with dark Old Olive and blended out with light Old Olive and light Daffodil Delight.  I used the sentiment from Hello Friend stamp set, a few punches and some Wild Wasabi seam binding ribbon.  Because I fell in love with this card, I made extras to send as Thank You cards to those who place an order with me in January.

Heartfelt Blooms

One of my favorite stamps from the Sale-a-Bration brochure is Heartfelt Blooms stamp set.  It is a very beautiful, photographic stamp image with a vintage look.  It is sophisticated and elegant, yet has a delicate simplicity.  This Distinktive stamp lays down ink with different thicknesses that gives it a finished look with lots of depth and detail.

It is stunning as one-step project — stamped in one color such as Elegant Eggplant with some Bermuda Bay accents.

Or, stamped in a neutral color and colored with your favorite coloring method.

Or step up with design using multiple colors.  Here, I created a background paper by stamping the floral image in Crumb Cake ink on Crumb Cake cardstock.  The floral spray was stamped in Pear Pizzazz on the Whisper While card front.  Next, I colored the daisy and stamped it on Whisper White cardstock scraps in Peekaboo Peach,  Sweet Sugarplum and Marina Mist inks.  The daisy center was colored with Daffodil Delight Stampin’ Blends.  The three daisies were mounted on the card front, with two daisies popped up with Dimensionals.

Guy Greetings – Two Different Ways

My favorite masculine stamp set is Guy Greetings.  With its retro look, it is perfect for making cards to celebrate the men in your life!  I love the line artwork of this stamp set, especially the old car because the men in my life love restoring old cars.  This particular stamp set is available as wood mount, clear mount or photopolymer to match your individual stamping style.

Below, I stamped the classic car three times in Soft Suede on a piece of Wood Textures designer series paper stack, which was subsequently matted with Bermuda Bay and Soft Suede cardstock.  The Stamp-a-ma-jig was used to ensure perfect spacing and alignment of the three cars.  On a scrap piece of Whisper White cardstock, I stamped a fourth car, which I colored using a blender pen and Bermuda Bay ink pad for a softer coloring effect and then fussy cut.  The Bermuda Bay card and sentiment are popped up with Dimensionals, and I added a some Bermuda Bay 3/8″ Mini Chevron Ribbon for a little extra pop of color.

Guy Greetings lisa 1

For my second card, I created a background paper using Night of Navy ink and Post Script background stamp for a more vintage vibe.  I sponged the edges and matted this background piece with Night of Navy cardstock to make it pop.  The car was stamped on scrap piece of Whisper White and die cut  and matted using Lots of Labels Framelits dies.  A piece of  Night of Navy 5/8″ Crinkle Seam Binding Ribbon added for a shabby chic appeal and secured with a Mini-Glue Dot under the knot.
