Lemon Zest and Shannon West

2018 Milwaukee Shannon West

While attending 2018 On-Stage Milwaukee with my up-line Sherry Herzing, I had the opportunity to meet Shannon West, a Demonstrator Development Manager from Stampin’ Up! corporate office.  You’ve probably recognize Shannon from the many Stampin’ Up! videos showcasing new and wonderful products.  She is warm and beautiful, and graciously autographed my catalog on page 117 of the new catalog — on the Lemon Zest stamp page.  Why Lemon Zest?  Because she was wearing a lovely dress with cheerful yellow lemons!  And, because lemons add a little zest to your life, even on the most bitter cold days when it’s snowing outside in April!  Milwaukee was such a fun place to visit.  We saw Lake Michigan with snow flurries, brilliant sunshine, thunderous clouds and white-out snow events!  LOL!

Of the 100 swaps I received, the most frequently used stamp set was Lemon Zest!  While this stamp set and punch will carry over to the new catalog, the special bundle pricing will not.  If you want to save 10%, please purchase the bundle before May 31st.

Here are a few of the wonderful swaps that I received.

It has been a week since convention and I’m still trying to play catch up.  In the days ahead, I’ll post more about the super fun and exciting time that I had while attending On-Stage, which is an exclusive event for Stampin’ Up! demonstrators.  I met people who I’ve always admired from afar, like Shannon West.  I got to touch and play with the new products coming out in the new annual catalog (June 2018).  And  I laughed like crazy with new best friends!  I can’t wait to attend my next convention!

Until next time, sending crafting hugs and inspiration wishes!

Shelli Gardner – Founder

While attending 2018 On-Stage Milwaukee, I had the opportunity to meet and talk with Shelli Gardner several times!  She is one of those genuine people who is every bit as friendly, warm and inviting when you meet her in person as who she appears to be on Facebook and Stampin’ Up! videos.  When I went to shake her hand, she pulled me into a biggest bear hug that I’ve ever received!!  For her teeny, tiny frame, she is strong and you  instantly know that you are loved and have a friend for life!

Different Types of Stamps

I am often asked which type of stamp do I prefer — red rubber or photopolymer.  Truthfully, I love both.  Each has unique properties and advantages.

I love the precise detail of a red rubber image that provides classic line drawings and photo-realistic images.  With red rubber stamps, the images have been etched or molded onto the rubber.  It is long-lasting and can withstand high temperatures like when you press them into molten embossing powder for deep embossing techniques.  In general, a red rubber stamp provides a crisper image with finer details than a photopolymer stamp.   And the built-in foam cushion backing for a red rubber stamp provides a more evenly stamped image, even when stamping with larger-sized background stamps.  If stamp positioning is important for your project, then using either the Stamp-a-ma-jig or the new Stamparatus alignment tools are recommended for the best results!  Stampin’ Up! offers wood-mount and clear-mount red rubber stamps.  Wood-mount are permanently mounted on maple blocks, while clear-mount will cling to acrylic blocks.

I love the ease of photopolymer stamps because their transparency makes it easy to line up repeating patterns and to perform two-step stamping with minimal adjustment.  Photopolymer stamps are flexible and bendable, and can be curved around an image or diecut for more creative options.  Multiple stamps can be placed on one large acrylic block or your Stamparatus for creating more detailed scenes.  It is perfectly normal that your photopolymer stamps will stain.  Therefore, it is best to “season” your stamp with VersaMark ink or another lightly colored ink to minimize the staining effect.  The photopolymer stamps will cling and stick to any smooth, clean surface — making them easier to lose on your desk!  So maybe a little staining is a good thing — making them easier to find!  LOL!

Of course, your needs and desires are different from mine; therefore, I simply recommend purchasing the stamps that you like working with best!

The March 2018 kit was Paper Pumpkin’s fifth year!   This kit was so spectacular, it sold out!  Here is a quick video showing how to make the eight cards using the written instructions for eight cards with coordinating envelopes.

While I loved the project, I decided to change things up.  I added some extra cardstock and ribbon from my craft stash to create two each of eight card designs for a total of 16 cards.

I loved the large vintage rose of the printed envelop, but preferred to use it as my card fronts.   I kept my design simple in order to showcase that large vintage rose image — which I matted with Blushing Bride and Flirty Flamingo cardstock or with Very Vanilla and Fresh Fig cardstock.

Can you tell the difference or similarity between the cards below?  Both cards use of a large floral spray die cut.  The left card used the whole die cut.  The right card used a carefully trimmed die cut, with the extra pieces added to the top left of the design — give the card a totally different look.

And here, I fussy cut the flower images that were stamped on cardstock and paired them with die cuts from the kit.

This two-step stamp set is fun to use.  Tip:  I created the softer/blended look of the feather fan by applying Pacific Point to the bottom half of the stamp using a sponge dauber.  And, I then applied Emerald Envy to the top half of the stamp using another sponge daughter.
