Paper Pumpkin: May 2018

pp 05-2018 1

Even though I subscribe to Paper Pumpkin, I don’t talk it up like I should.  Each month, a pretty box arrives with everything I need to make a fun project just for me!  After assembly this May’s kit, I thought I’d share the fun!

One of the best things about Paper Pumpkin is that it has wonderful instructions, which you can read or view.

Another thing that I love about Paper Pumpkin is that each kit has enough product to be creative and do something completely different!  And, that’s what I did with May’s kit called Manly Moments.

And, now Stampin’ Up! is changing things up with Paper Pumpkin to make it more fun and exciting.  I love this idea and you’re going to love it too!

The June 2018 kit will coordinate with a new product suite in Stampin’ Up!’s 2018 Annual Catalog.  How fun is that?! While I can’t yet tell you the name of the product suite….this Stampin’ Up! graphic provides a huge hint….that is, if you have a copy of the new catalog!

If you don’t have a new catalog, which goes live 1 June, then contact me to receive one!  Here’s some information on subscribing to Paper Pumpkin!

Color Revamp and New Ink Cases

color revamp

Remaining on trend and up-to-date with new products is one of the most important parts of a paper crafting business.  And this color revamp allows Stampin’ UP! to offer fresh, vibrant colors to stretch your creativity and allow you to explore new exciting color combinations in your paper crafting.

With the color revamp, they are bringing back six all-time favorites from past In-Color collections and adding them to our core colors:  Mossy Meadow, Poppy Parade, Flirty Flamingo, Coastal Cabana, Mint Macaron and Blackberry Bliss.  They are adding ten new colors being added to our collection:  Balmy Blue, Gorgeous Grape, Granny Apple Green, Gray Granite, Highland Heather, Mango Melody, Merry Merlot, Petal Pink, Shaded Spruce and Soft Sea Foam.  Plus introducing five new In-Colors for 2018-2020:  Blueberry Bushel, Call Me Clover, Grapefruit Grove, Lovely Lipstick and Pineapple Punch.  That’s a total of 21 new colors.

Stampin’ Up! remembered how much we love our color coach cards for ideas on great color combination.  Download your color coaches featuring the new core color collections and the In-Color collections.

Print this file for Color Coach for the 40 core colors

Print this file for Color Coach for the 10 In-Colors (2017-2019 and the new 2018-2020)

On May 31, 2018, the following 17 colors are retiring:  Always Artichoke, Chocolate Chip, Dapper Denim, Elegant Eggplant, Emerald Envy, Island Indigo, Marina Mist, Peekaboo Peach, Perfect Plum, Pink Pirouette, Rose Red, Soft Sky, Sweet Sugar Plum, Tangerine Tango, Tempting Turquoise, Wild Wasabi, and Wisteria Wonder.  If you love these colors, please be sure to order cardstock and reinkers before they sell out!  Because once they’re gone, they are gone – or you’ll be paying big prices on Ebay!

After making the decision to revamp the colors, they choose to improve our ink pad cases and ink formula! They listened to suggestions by demonstrators and customers and this is what they came up with:

  • Easy to lift open case – it opens like your make-up compact.
  • There is a tighter fit between the lid and the base. This will help keep the lid on its track, making it easier to slide open and close.
  • It is stackable for easier storage and transport. There is a nub in each bottom corner that fits nicely into the dimple on the top of another case.
  • Improved labeling and stickers – with a label to go on the inside of the case so you can easily distinguish the ink’s color when the case is open
  • New ink formula that reduces bubbles, lays smooth on the stamp surface and provides a smooth finish on our cardstock.
  • Archival Basic Black and Archival Basic Grey will be retired.
  • Stampin’ Up! will carry Tuxedo Black Memento Pad, to use with Blends and general stamping needs, and the Jet Black StāzOn Pad, to use for watercolor and nonporous surface stamping.

Until next time, sending you crafting hugs and inspiration wishes!

Apron of Love

This is a clever recipe card idea created by Carmen Miyoshi, a Stampin’ Up! demonstrator from Iowa using the Apron of Love bundle.  I was lucky to receive her swap while attending 2018 On-Stage Milwaukee in April.

apron of love swap recipe card

The Apron of Love bundle lets you create lovely apron cards and projects for almost every occasion.  The best part is that aprons symbolize so many things — both masculine and feminine — when it comes to love, strength, dedication, hard work, caring for others and homemade goodies!!!

Let’s take a closer look at Carmen’s card.  She used Apron Builder Framelit Dies and the Layering Circle Framelit Dies.  The apron was die cut from Birthday Memories Designer Series Paper.  I love her used of fun, feminine colors of cardstock in Flirty Flamingo, Soft Sky, Lemon-Lime Twist and Whisper White.

The card is a fun-fold design with a shallow pocket to hold the recipe card.  And, the recipe card is for Carmen’s Cinn-Fully Delicious Cookies.  Yum!

This is a clever project which is perfect for holiday cookie exchanges!  You could use retiring holiday themed paper and coordinated cardstock to create the card to share with your homemade goodies.

But as I said, this is a great bundle for creating feminine and masculine cards/projects.  Just change the colors, add some metallic design elements and it would make a great Father’s Day Card.  And add some ribbon and create a unique gift tags for giving homemade items from the kitchen.

Please note that while the individual items of this bundle carry-over to the new catalog, the special bundle price does not!  So if you want to save 10%, order this bundle by May 31st .

You know how to create the card background, and the Just Add Text stamp set makes it  easy to add just the right sentiment and to add that extra touch of something special to your card.  This stamp set has a mixture of fonts and styles will find yourself reach for time and time again!  Unfortunately, this is another last change stamp set that is retiring May 31st.

This card is created using a classic color combination of Early Espresso, Pool Party and Whisper White.  The Soft Sky cardstock layer was beautifully embossed with petals and flowers using one of the two Petal Pair embossing folders.

The sentiment becomes the focal point of this design, stamped and matted with Stitched Shapes Framelits Dies, and surrounded by a Delicate White Doily and leaves punched in Early Espresso and Vellum using the Leaf Punch.

Butterfly Basics & Dragonfly Dreams

Butterfly Basics stamp set is retiring, and it is a last chance item that is available until May 31 or while supplies last.  And, Dragonfly Dreams stamp set and Detailed Dragonfly Thinlits Dies are carrying over to the new 2018-2019 Annual Catalog.

These three items work perfectly together with a wonderful mix of organic images, dies, backgrounds, and sentiments.  Here, I combined Whisper White and Lemon-Lime Twist with a piece of Tranquil Tide from Fresh Florals Designer Series Paper Stack.

I had so much fun with this month’s Paper Pumpkin.  The kit came with supplies to make four gift boxes containing five 3″x3″ gift cards and envelopes.  By following the directions, you’ll have a wonderful gift for someone.

april 2018 pp - as instructed

Or, you can change it up.  It is completely acceptable and encouraged to do something completely different with the contents of the kit.  Here are some alternative designs, and I still have tons of stuff left over for creating something else.

Nautical not your thing???  Well, look what else I made…

april 2018 pp - alternate 1

I created this sentiment by carefully inking up two different sentiments – “You are my anchor” and “Adventure Awaits”.  This will be hubby’s anniversary card — shhhh!

NEW 2018-2020 In Color Ink Pads

Hey There!  The new 2018-2020 In-Color ink pads in Blueberry Bushel, Call Me Clover, Grapefruit Grove, Lovely Lipstick and Pineapple Punch are available to purchase NOW!  You are going to love these bright rainbow colors to brighten up your papercrafting after a long cold winter!

2018-2020 In Colors

Here is a quick comparison of the new and old ink pads….

New and Old Ink Pads.jpg

As you may have noticed, we’ve improved our ink pad cases.  With change, there are often questions.  Here is what I know about these changes!  Stampin’ Up! thought long and hard, and listen to demonstrators and customers.  These changes are exactly what paper crafters have been asking for…

  • Easy to open ink pad design.  It opens like your favorite make-up mirror/compact — just place your thumb in the lip at the front of the case and lift it to open.
  • The lid and ink pad base have a tighter fit to keep the lid properly aligned, so that it slides open and closed easily.
  • It is stackable for easy storage and transport. We designed a nub in each bottom corner that fits nicely into the dimple on the top of another case.
  • It has more stickers to label inside and outside your case for easy identification.
  • The new ink is formulate to reduce bubbles, to give you a smooth coating of ink on your stamp and to lay down the ink better on your paper.
  • You can use old ink refills on new ink pads, and you can use new ink refills on old ink pads.
  • We are retiring Basic Gray Archival and Basic Black Archival ink pads and carrying once again Jet Black StazOn and Tuxedo Black Memento inks.
  • I recommend using the Tuxedo Black Memento Pad with Stampin’ Blends and general black stamping needs, and the Jet Black StāzOn Pad with watercoloring techniques.

Magical Mermaid

Mermaids appear in the folklore of many cultures worldwide.  While there is no evidence that mermaids ever existed, it is fun to consider the possibility.  And, the Magical Mermaid stamp set lets you create your imaginary undersea world.

When I attended 2018 On-Stage Milwaukee, I participated in a shoe box swap with 22 other demonstrators.  Here is the card I shared using Stitched Shapes Framelits dies, Flourish Thinlits dies and Seaside Textured embossing folder.
